Another story from the front lines of retail…
So this week I used a much larger board to draw on for each panel. I don’t think I’ve ever mentioned my production process before so here are some details. I use an illustration board and cut it to order so that each panel is a separate board. The finished square board used to be 5″ but now is 7″, which is nice because I have a lot more room for details and finer control of gestures and the like. I’ve already done next week’s cartoon and while I think I didn’t fully take advantage of all this new space this week, I certainly did for next week.
I draw in non-photo blue pencil (which doesn’t show up when scanned and so needs no erasing saving time) and then ink over that. When that’s done I scan each panel, clean them up in photoshop and move them over to Illustrator for words, panel borders and anything else that needs doing. A few quick change of formats and exports and I’m ready to upload. This process is always evolving and if you have any suggestions I’m all ears.

I used to work at a ball park selling baseball merch like hoodies and balls t shirts hats and whatever. in this stadium there were bathrooms about every 5 steps. where ever you looked there would be a bathroom. every night i would have more than 60 people ask me where the bathroom is. the previous year i worked there at the concessions stands selling hot dogs… on the menu was 4 kinds of dogs including sausages pop corn, salads and soda. thats it. I would have people walk up.. stare at the menu for 20 minutes and ask if we serve pizza here. it was very very very annoying i have so many stories about why i hate the general public. but hey, i’m getting paid right?
