Happy New Year!
Darthmike Says...: January 9th, 2007Well did you survive the Christmas rush and the return rush? I hope that more of you than not will be able to keep your jobs in 2007. That’s the suckiest part of working retail, getting cut during the first quarter of the new year because things are slow. You work you ass off for almost no l00tz and then they slap you with the loss of even that. I’ve always hated the way that it’s designed to work now.
Whenever I wanted a raise I always had to go out and get a new job. That was usually ok because half of the time we didn’t make our unreasonable increase in percent over last years sales and so would soon be on the block anyway. As a manager I could hold a job for a year or so, 2.5 years was my personal best; however, as an associate it was hard to justify staying in a stagnant wage when you could get hired to go somewhere else thus giving yourself a raise. You just had to be careful that you didn’t do that too often or it would look bad on your resume.
If there are those of you who have lost your jobs may you be looking at a raise for your next position, or better yet get a job that is far away from retail as you can get.
Best wishes in the New Year!!
